Health & Wellness
The YMCA aims to improve our nation's health by providing programs and activities that promote overall well-being, no matter where you are on your journey toward better health. And when people feel their best and have fulfilling lifestyles, their communities become stronger, too.
Members of the Springvale Masonic Lodge #190, Tim Beals, Lucas Oak, Lyndon Oak, Clem Baxter, Sean Butler and Connor Baxter join Merilee Perkins, Director of Healthy Living celebrate the arrival of the SciFit StepOne Recumbent Stepper. Through a matching grant program with the Maine Masonic Charitable Foundation, the Springvale Lodge's gift to the Y was a significant contribution to the purchase of this machine. The StepOne provides total body functional movement and can be used by all. It has a step-through design allowing all users full access and easy entry. The seat has handle bars for safety and rotates 180 degrees in both directions and can be removed so a wheelchair can roll up to the pedals. It also has a full-color touch-screen, adjustable settings and, customizable programs- you can workout at your own level of intensity once settled!
The Maine Masonic Charitable Foundation and Special Olympics Maine have a partnership that includes financial support and programs to promote social inclusion. The Sanford Springvale YMCA has been working with Maine Special Olympics and Unified Champion Clubs, a free program that promotes social inclusion through sports and activities for people with and without intellectual disabilities through our collaborations with Great Bay Services and Way Point. Check out our Strong Together class, Cardio Drumming, adaptive swim classes, basketball champs and watch for our anticipated unified cornhole crew.
