During the early morning hours on Halloween, over 100 zombies, minions, super heroes and M&Ms ran or walked at our Spooky Sprint 5k. Joel Vantassell, age 15, was the first male to finish at 20 minutes and 16 seconds. Geri Clifford, age 62, was the first female to finish at 23 minutes and 57 seconds.
“We had a great turnout…doubling the runners from the previous year,“ said Merilee Perkins, Y Senior Program Director. “We had many young families participate in the race and many first time 5k runners.”
Thanks to the participants and sponsors the race raised over $4,500 to support the YMCA’s Scholarship Program, which provided over $130,000 in financial assistance last year. At the Y, we believe we have something special—a sense of community—and that everyone should have access to it, along with the programs and services that help us learn, grow and thrive. With our supporters help, we were proud to share the Y with more than 600 children, seniors and families last year who otherwise might not have become part of our Y family.
